Good!
You don't have to say "watashi wa" though in that sentance. Whenever a sentence is used without that phrase, its automatically assumed. Japanese will think you learned it out of a book if you say "watashi wa" and they will know that you are a tourist.

Kanji is damn near impossible to learn/read without being involved with the lanuage every day, for years since there are about 3500 characters. Hiragana and katakana is easy however. If you can memorize the english alphabet, you can read 35% of the japanese language.
BTW, I can't read Kanji, and a lot of those characters are kanji. Pretty much the only sentence i was able to understand was the first one. My boss was in the room when i opened this thread and he told me what it says

He is American, but has lived here for 17 years and has a Japanese wife, so his Kanji is really good, not perfect, even after 17 years, but damn good.
