Nothing is assumed...
My take from reading this overly drawn out thread is swapping in a gen3...regardless of where you are coming from. NA, blown up gen2, or perfectly running gen2, et cetera.
And the last 2-3 pages specifically talks about going
from gen2 to gen3.
