After about 10 years, a whole mess of modsand even more money, he wound up with a supercharged 518 sticking out of the hood running "more power than anyone should ever have in a street car" (<--his words, not mine, if I remember right he was running around 20-25psi of boost...). Seriously, it would spin out on gravel roads at idle. I'm not talking just spinning the wheels, but sliding the rear end around to the left or right. he actually took out the stick for an auto tranny 'cause it tamed the car better.
I had that problem too. I got my ST MR2 and thought, combined with the lower weight, I'd be happy with the 15-20 HP over my FC. Now I'm building an FI engine to roughly double it. At least this time I'm doing it right and building it to as close to the limit as I can justify in one shot, but I"m not making any promises that I'll never up the boost or wind up building it up tougher yet.

I have an Rx-7 with a stock port 12a, with a Mikuni sidedraft, matched intake, and a header + full exhaust. I havent touched the engine since I built it. I couldnt tell you how long its been this way, at least 8 years. On a DynoJet it laid down 120 wheel horsepower, pretty impressive for a stockport 12a. Its about a 14 second car, and I love it, just enough to power out of the corners.
I overbuild everything and make sure its reliable. I dont care about gobs of power, I really dont. If it brings a smile to my face, thats good enough. I dont want to, and cant afford to rebuild an engine and decide one day to crank the boost up, if it explodes, it will be undriveable until I can save enough dough to fix it. I dont know about you, but I enjoy driving my car.
Oh 2 or 3 more pounds wont hurt, bam broken ring lands (insert various other problem here). To be honest, ideally I want to build a 10:1 4A-GE with some 256's in it. Maybe a header and exhaust, a little more fuel. That would be worlds more reliable than a turbo. 120-130 to the wheels in an MR2 would be fine with me, and and more that I can get without sacrificing any form of reliability is gravy.
