I am failing to see where the confusion is. The motor is from a MR2 yes? I can't imagine the oil pan/pickup being really any different between that and the Camry regardless.
I just had mine off, and while it is a PITA to get that oil pan manuevered around the exhaust (just unbolted off headers and pulled ot the side) it wasn't that much of a PITA to get it around the baffle and everything fit perfectly.
It's really pretty easy. Looses the lug nuts on a wheel, jack it up, unbolt the exhaust off the headers, and unscrew almost all the oil pan bolts. Keep 1-2 one and have a friend come pull the exhaust down and out of the way (quite hard, might be easier to just remove more of it but I am afraid the cross member must be dropped for this which is a PITA) and you unbolt the last couple of bolts and pull/pry the old one off.
Once you have it off, discard it to the side and clean the bottom of the block where the oil pan meets it. Clean it well! Usually a putty knife and some engine degreeser on some shop towles is requires. Once you have that all cleaned, make youself a gasket using RTV on the new oil pan (make sure this is clean too. Brake parts cleaner works well and doesn't leave residue) and push it back up there and start bolting it in from the middle on either side, to the outside if that makes sense. Start with the middle bolt on each side, then work opposite ways on each side till you come full circle. These don't needa be torqued town, just tight. Let it chill for a good ~12-24hrs and yer good to go.
Oh, and never go back to the last mechanic you had?
