Making progress with the swap. Timing belt, headgasket, water pump. Everything is moving along great except...

How do I take off the selector shaft from the original tranny? Please be specific... I'm not good at mechanics.

I removed the 4 bolts on the top, and whatever the thingy is that attaches to the bottom with a square piece. I know I can twist it into one position and pull it straight out (already did with the ST trans) but I can't get one piece off the bottom. It has a bolt with a circular head and a nut on the end of it. I removed the nut, tried hammering it out (so that I can unscrew it.) but from the looks of it, I have to remove a bottom piece to get the shaft to clear. anyone?
