Go ahead autocross..
I've met some of my greatest friends at the racetrack. Go for it!
Go to any autocross, talk to the racers, have a discussion with the technical inspector on where you want to go in car prep.
He will make a good friend to call later with questions too.
He'll tell you how the different levels of prep will lead you to higher brackets of racing competition.
You can race your stock car, without prep. Even your lady friend could drive if they have ladies classes. Alot do.
Most SCCA events are booze free, therefore it makes a great place for kids too. (all have insurance and are sanctioned)
If you like cars you'll have a great time watching other drivers do goofy things in the name of Racing.
Yeah, go for it!
