Sixafterfour and I worked late on it tonight. about 2 maybe 2 and a half hours getting it going.
pulled off the cables and the levers wouldn't move.
We drained the transmission fluid, and filled it up with some synthetic stuff.
After that we moved the levers around and around and around. it started getting into gears and such.
After that, with the car jacked up, we put it in first and let the oil warm up a bit. Then with some luck we got it into reverse. played around with the gears for a bit and thing started to shift a bit more normal again.

Took it off the jack stands and took it for a test drive and everything seems good!
I kinda suspect that the ends of the reverse gear are a little gnarled up. though, but its in working order.
