maybe with this one its arching off the plug wire with the tach wire, or the dizzy cap is loose. meaning it'll move back and forth wouldn't doubt it considering all the time u've spent playing with it. also if it is the cat. then it will usually glow red/orange if its stopped up or you'll feel really low pressure out the pipe. what was the condition of the new engine when you put it in the 2. could be a carbon build up problem.
