I have used my stock S/C car in competition for 19 years. Never ever had a clutch problem in over 250,000 miles. How's that for reliability?
You could wire the 2 wire electromagnetic clutch to a drag type "brake switch" on your shifter and make it work when you wanted. Getting it to kick out at a preset low RPM (3-4K) like you want sounds like more of a challenge.
My car idles at 900RPM and when I stomp it the clutch is engaged immediately so low RPM is not a issue either.
BTW I've noted that if the clutch facing is dry or oiled it still functions the same.
Go for it dude, I see no reason your idea can't work from the experience I have had.
Write us back when you get this project moving along, we're all waiting to hear how you do with this idea?
