Sound like a sweet car that 20 valve should put out nice power!

t-vis valve

And i don't that the t-vis would be the culprit.

I think the tps sounds like the culprit, if you have a service manual for that engine, and the knowhow you'd want to check the tps like you said, as well as the afm

EDIT, maybe just check that the throttle cable is moving freely
