Why buy a wearable item when a new replacement is about $60 or so?
I didn't know they were that cheap!? Good advice, a junkyard will probably charge you a ridiculously high price for it anyways.

NEVER NEVER use a floor jack to support a vehicle, they are only for raising and lowering a vehicle, use some decent jackstands. Use some common sense, proper clothing, and if working by yourself, try to have someone check on you occasionally and keep a telephone within arm's reach.
Again good advice.

I am paranoid of being squished under cars, i always slide the wheel under the frame of the car when i take it off (although i'm pretty sure this would do nothing if it fell) and pretty well triple check all the jackstands and that the car is secure.
