Nobody pays attention. The s/c's can get good gas mileage because you're usually in vacuum at cruising speeds/loads on the engine.... when it starts to boost you will start using more fuel.

The ecu is designed to work in conjunction with the s/c. I would assume it would not know if the s/c is on or not. IF you want to save fuel the key would be to trick the ecu into knowing the s/c is off when you have it turned off.

On my 87 with a gze on Megasquirt I have the s/c on it's own relay and switch. I haven't driven it much since I got this car back and threw the ae92 motor in (with 101 s/c stuff)... but long ago when I had it running in it's prime it got (wasn't tuned) 14mpg with the s/c on and 40+ with it off. Def. slow to drive with the s/c off.

Another thing you might want to consider is using a C series transmission. Much lighter, will make the car more nimble, and better gear ratios... all = better gas mileage.
