Creativity is a good thing, but I think the OEM boot may still be available brand new from Toyota. I do know that MkII shift boots are easily available, in the $30 range with the discount I give MR2 owners, but I don't remember checking for MkI boots in a while. You guys can shoot me an email or post a thread in my vendor forum if you'd like me to check, or just ask me to in this thread and I'll get the notification when you do.
I know we MkI owners are cheapskates (and I am among the worst), but if spending a few dollars extra saves a few hours of driving around looking for stuff and trying to make it work, it may be worthwhile
