Happened to me too a while back. Pulled over b/c it felt like 1 or 2 cylinders were not firing. Sure enough water in the spark plug valleys. Called work to say I'd be late, and just folded up some paper towels into pointed shapes to stick in and soak up the water. It worked and I made it to work a few minutes late.
Now I'm really careful about washing the engine area of the car with my garden hose when I hand wash my MR2.
