This would not be a bad swap at all. They are lighter to start with and can take some good boost. They rev nicely (redline at the same RPM) and they also make peak power at the same RPM as the stock GE. Yes you can make more power out of other motors but I would bet you can make 180hp out the 4EFTE properly built with just bolt ons. They sold a 5EFHE motor in the US and that bumps the displacement up to 1.4liters and I think you can also bore it a bit to get it closer. This motor with a T25 would make excellent power, throttle response, dependability, weight, revs, etc, etc.

I thought about this awhile back but was told there is better options. You can buy a complete motor from tigerjapanese for less but you have to locate wiring, ECU and some other parts. However I would say you could get a street built MR2 with this motor and make 180hp and have the cars total weight less than 2200lbs which is pretty darn good.

The internals are extremely tough. I was told it is best to start with a 5EFHE and swap in the 4EFTE pistons. You will have to work on the mounts but it should make a good little motor for hp levels around 200hp and improve braking and handling (do to lower total car weight).
