Some other factors to consider:
One of the worst things you can do to an AWII's handling is to make the rear half of the car heavier.
Forced induction on a similar displacement engine is always better. Because you can never have too much Horsepower. {tounge in cheek . . not an absolute truth}.
An N.A. designed engine is a poor candidate for forced induction. The compression ratio is too high, and the pistons and rods will not be made of forged strength materials.
Strangely enough, all this swap advice I'm getting is coming to me at a time where my current engine is making a sound a lot like "Rod Knock", though I doubt it is actually rod knock. Anyway, she's about to get ripped apart starting today. And coincidentally, the collective consciousness of MR2 land, is directing me to a larger displacement swap. Hmmm I'll give it some deep consideration for sure. Where I live the population is so sparse that in ten years, I've only seen 3 Mr2's of any generation in local junkyards. I have to import just about everything parts wise.
Gentlemen, I'm listening and will give it some thought. I'm having really crappy luck with my SC14 setup.
