i used one in every car ive ever had except my current 2. (only because i havent bought one yet) shifting doesnt really change with the knob. the only thing that the knob changes is the way you grab it with your hand. the drop plate is needed to get the lower look and to change the pivot point of the shifter. this doesnt really change the shift ratio (to my knowledge. i may be wrong on this one) it only decreases the length from point a to point b in your shift "throw" allowing for a quicker shift. as far as reverse being hard to find, try putting it in 1st gear (without releasing the clutch), then putting it into reverse. sometimes the gears or the synchros can be just a little off and since 1st and reverse share gears its an easy way to get it together.
