I'm not certain what you mean by "timing belt guide". If you mean the lower timing belt cover, I have run my car without an upper or lower cover for years. Though in one snow storm, I did have the timing belt turn 180° and still stay on all the pulleys, etc… (It was tighter than a [fill in your own description].) A relatively easy fix, but inconvenient.
