so it is not shutting then?
if the hood is not shutting:
it's either going to be the spring that holds the latch down.
if the hood release is not opening the hood:
see what you can rig to tighten the cable from either end (the cabin/hood latch)
I'll take pictures sometime soon, I have a MKII, but I had the same problem with my other car.
