yeah it shuts fine, but like you said the cable almost needs to be a half inch or less shorter, then it would pop right open. When the cable is hooked up and someone pulls on the lever by the driver's seat and holds the tension on it. I can see it move everything from underneath and I can take a long metal piece and just kinda push where the cable connects to the latch and it pops right open.
