Update on information:

I just tried to set the timing with the timing light. I set it up with the connections bridged for the first line and the pin. Now I noticed when it would dip, the timing would go far off. As in the first line I was setting up with the pin was far to the left of the pin.

I'm thinking this is a red flag for something but I don't know enough about this car (or maybe cars in general) to know what is not working.
