S/C E-51 vs C-52 transmissions-exp'd advice

Donny-

Been in those shoes, as I've raced my 89S/C since 1989 in SE Divisional SCCA, in the beginning supporting 3 kids as well. Truly Budget Racing.

When I taught my Pit Crew (wife) to drive a stickshift racecar in 1992 the E-51 Supercharged Close-Ratio "parts only" rebuild cost $800, in 1998 it cost $1300 for the same exact "parts only" list. Last time I checked it was well over $2,000 and thusly I was financially forced to check into alternatives.

My C-52 conversion tranny cost $400, my yard supplier was nice enuff to let me take all the parts I "inadvertantly" had to remove to extract the tranny. (Making real "good yard" friends is mandatory for Budget Racing)

In the 6 years since that conversion I've discovered:

I like the c-52 better!!

Cheaper to rebuild ($250 labor & junk tranny)
longer "legs" in each 2-4 gears, which is supported by the extra torque & HP the Supercharger supplies,
less shifting in Autocross events, (more WOT time)
easier maint (shafts unbolt w/o draining tranny)
axle bearings are stupidly cheaper
strange "extra" toe-in w S/C arms (much, much faster cornering)
aftermarket parts ARE availiable.

If you are expecting to stay in competition for several more years, with this car, you might want to considering the financial aspects of this swap. It has proved very viable in my racing endeavors.
