But the ignition timing is spot on 10 deg BTDC as you said. If the distributor had an issue, the ignition timing would jump even if the ECU diagnostic pins are shorted.

Plus, you'd be misfiring. It's the ECU's job to advance and retard timing based on signals from the knock sensor.
