20 amps at 13.8 volts= 276 Watts, figuring 50% efficiency at the alternator, about 550 watts. 746 watts=1 horsepower.

Now one horsepower sure does not sound like much, BUT.........

At 50mph our MK1 only take about 10-12 Horsepower, that is it. So this contraption will increase the power demand by almost 10%

5 gallons of water weigh about 42 pounds, plus the other hardware. Have U travelled in a MK1 lately? With a passenger? Where are you going to put a five gallon bucket at?

If U really want to travel on the cheap, IMHO do a tdi diesel conversion and make your own biodiesel.
