I'm starting to change my mindset on weight reduction a bit. Why take a heavy car and pull a few parts off here and there? Why not start with a super lightweight car and tube-frame it? - start from scratch with a minimalist design from the ground up. If I ever have a) money, and b) a place to work on a car, I'm seriously considering building a tube-framed, all fiberglass body Austin Healey Sprite, with double wishbone suspension, shocks from a YZF-R1, Miata hubs and brakes, and a 20b rotary swapped in. I think I could get it under 1200lbs dry, and the 20b should make 400+hp with a few mods. I spent 4 hours earlier tonight planning the chassis/roll cage. Too bad I don't have a good place to work, because I think this idea is made completely of win. Plus, being a 1958-60 car, it'd be immune to all emissions laws.
