Question Ignition Coil

I am continuing my examination of reasons why I am still experiencing a slight stumble in acceleration between 2 and 3K rpm, sometime higher, and am beginning to suspect it could be spark (coil) related. In the experience of this fine group of knowledgeable folks, what our one's options, when looking at coil replacements for an early 85 Mk1. Note, this has 321+K miles on it and for all practical purposes the coil is original (at least it looks like it)...

The coil also has some sort of electronic assembly attached (or believe to be attached to) it. Are aftermarket coils an option and if so, what should one be looking for (say, is 45 to 50K volts) an acceptable range to replace the stock coil with (if it can be done)?

I have recently adjusted the timing such that it's hitch isn't as noticeable, but would like to try and get it to pull smooth the mid range (for a street car) as best as possible. Note, I have replaced the plug wires, dist cap and rotor. Coil is the only spark related component that hasn't been swapped out as yet.

Ideas?
