Blew out my VVT transistor a couple of weeks ago. It's transistor T808 on the ECU board. See this link for details of it happening in Malaysia.

Typical Problems of Toyota Corolla Levin / Trueno AE111 20v MAP ECU (aka blacktop)

I replaced it with an NTE2382 and after 180 miles VVT I can report that the VVT is back and working as it should.

I don't know what the original transistor is but this one is rated for 6.5 to 9.2 amps depending on temperature so I don't anticipate any problems. If I encounter any I'll post them here.
