I installed TRD hard rubber bushings on my 87 (about 10 years ago) and it really made a huge difference in handling. The Prothanes are stiffer as I recall so it should also make a big difference. You should have a good press and proper sized arbors. It is not a hard job if you have the right tools. The only thing that would bother me about poly bushings is if they squeak. I can stand more road noise but squeaking from my suspension really drives me crazy. I had hard bushings on the rear swaybar droplinks on my WRX and no matter how much grease I put on they would squeak -- had to go back to stock.
