It's deffinatly easier to swap the clutch out when the engine is out of the car. Lots of times when you get the engine with the trans you'll see that the clutch was pretty beat by the time you get it. It's only about 150 to swap it out and it's worth the headache to replace it while it's accesable. It's tough to do this swap on a budget because there are allways things that come up. I expected the swap to cost me around $1200 for engine and parts. I ended up buying the car with that money so it kinda put me up there. 700 for the car, 500 for the engine, 300 for wiring (found someones swapped harness used), 150 for clutch, and I have other things I need for the car to get it on the road. It's good to have a budget but expect to go over it.
