Sounds interesting! I'm in no rush. Back ~ 1987 I rented a brand new MK1 for a long trip ~2,000 miles. The car was great. If pushed hard in high speed curves, it "floundered" a little when it hit small bumps, but otherwise was a great ride.
BTW, a couple of years ago I bought a 60,000 mile salvage-titled 1990 Toyota Supra turbo from eBay for $3,000, and it's been a great car--except I had to replace the head gasket after ~ a year. Would never do it again unless I pulled the whole motor out. All that leaning screwed up a nerve in my leg, and it hurt for a year! I'm getting too old for that stuff now (68).
Still have it, but it only gets 20 mpg on high test, so I thought a nice light early MR2 might get ~30 on reg. gas.
