Same old story about non-North American parts: Toyota Motor Sales USA does not give us free reign to any old part number we want. For non-US engines, they stock a few tune-up bits, a few timing belts, and a few gasket sets in US warehouses. They do not list, or stock, or allow us to order most of the individual gaskets or seals or plug wires. It is up to us to come up with part numbers; non-US engines are not in the dealer parts catalogs. I have to get them off the internet just like anyone else.
Basically, they're allowing us (dealers) to support the people who've purchased privately imported engines, but they're doing it in the way that is most efficient and least time-consuming to them.
Keep in mind, people with JDM engines are an impossibly tiny fraction of a percent of Toyota's customer base. I'd venture a guess that most people with JDM engines will not be buying a new vehicle from Toyota for a decade or two. Convenient, inexpensive parts availability for engines they never sold here, and haven't sold anywhere for many many years, is simply not their highest concern - not by a long shot!
