the predecessor to the geo prizm was the chevy nova... which in the 80's had a 4ac or a bigport 4age.... the prizm's in 88-89 had the 4af, prizm's (all but gsi) in 90-92 had a 4afe, and the gsi's had a smallport 4age.

if the head is off of the block you can tell based on what the pistons look like. There are only tiny little valve cutouts in the US gze pistons. The gze's should have a knock sensor in them (location depends on what generation you have) but as another mentioned, so do the high comp/smallport n/a 4age's.
