The substitute is to buy an aftermarket intake from a 98+ 1mzfe (we've been doing this for a while). The beams 3sge uses the same maf as the 1mz. The cheap aftermarket pipes give you the correct diameter pipe, and the correct air velocity over the heater element, along with the correct mounting bracket. Stuffing the maf in a random rubber intake hose gives you too much or too little. That and having the sensor turned off at an angle can cause problems.
