Exactly. You need upholstry thread which is thick and heavy duty. I doubled up mine twice. (Two pieces of thread through the needle, doubled back and all tied together).

Yep, I know. I did this. Nada. The problem is that I specified Black or Gray ONLY. Clearly I'm not the only one who has asked about this as nobody had anything from a mid-to-early-nineties-Toyota-anything.
A couple of parts have gotten here (yay!) so I'm going to start pulling bits out of the car tonight.
