I doubt it. The openings in the fittings on the hose are your bottle necks. You can close off a 4an easily enough, but opening up the 8an to an optimal size wont work; you would have to drill out to the minor diameter of the threads.
You might try and close off the feed a bit, and keep an eye on it to make sure the return is keeping up. That is if you are opposed to cutting off the 8an stuff.
