I wouldn't necessarily say this is true. Coming from the Subaru world, I can tell you that a lot of guys are running these as the WRX doesn't come with a front LSD (it has a rear LSD). The problem with the OBX diff's isn't the diff itself, it's the hardware associated with it.
What folks figured out to do was pull the bolts that come with the OBX, buy some high quality bolts to replace them, screw them in, drop in the diff, and off you go.
There are quite a few people who have done this and then run the OBX diff's for 15K+ miles with no issues and improved performance.
I'm not saying "go buy one" I'm just highlighting that based on other experiences that there is a way to make these work. As to whether or not they are a good match for the MR2 (I'm clearly still learning) I have no idea. Subaru guys have found them to be a nice option if you're on a budget.
