So your basically saying that if you drive slow, the temp climbs but if you get up to higher speed, it'll drop back down????

If so, then the first place I would look is the radiator fans. The MR2 already has a design flaw with the way the radiator is ducted, fans not coming on only make this situation worse..

The thermostat would not be effected by speed.

9 times out of 10, if a engine heats up at low vehical speeds and cools back down at higher vehical speeds, its an airflow issue through the radiator.
