Guys, I used to get the check engine light while on the freeway when I had that stupid loud exhaust. So check to make sure there is no air leak anywhere on your exhaust, trust me, even after getting it fixed (welded), I kept getting a leak here and there until I got them all welded. Then I installed the whole oem exhaust and then I never saw that light again. So this is from my experience. As for the idle, check your intake hose. That one used to move every now and then, which let air in through it instead of the air filter. Just my 2 cents before you go assuming worst things. Like Aaron said, check the basic stuff first, then see if that will help.
