The car shows a CEL when some part of the car is worn, or failed, or out of adjustment. The first thing to do is to retrieve the codes stored in the ECU and see what they say.
Let me make this very clear: those codes
absolutely do not tell you "here is a part that you must replace." What they really say is, "here is a circuit or system that is seeing a problem." Follow the diagnostic instructions in the BGB or manual - they are there for a reason!
Sorry if this is elementary, but a lot of people don't know where to start, and sometimes we need to be reminded to start at the beginning and use the tools that Toyota has given us.
