Actually / Amazingly, the lag is not that bad at all. I had the chance about 6 months ago to go for a ride in a Pontiac GTO that had a STS setup on it. Boost came on very quickly to my surpise...
Installing one on a Spyder would theoretically lessen any lag from the system do to the engine being in the back already thus having less travel distance from the engine to the turbine and the same for the compressor side of things. One thing to remember here is these are systems that are designed for low boost applications. If you were to lower the CR (compression ratio) in effert to run much higher boost, then yes I think lag would become a big issue..
