Initially, I'm planning to hack up and rework the OE y-pipe into something with a flex that will bend around to connect the stock MR2 muffler flange. Eventually I will probably replace that set-up with proper headers. My main goal is to eliminate the OE Y-pipe's restricting bends & baffels.
For a muffler I'm planning to start with an OE turbo unit, but I'd really like to find a good dual exit (to keep the OE look) muffler that's a bit lighter and perhaps less restricitive. I don't know enough about the OE muffler yet to know how much of a change that will make, though. Once I have the car on the dyno I'll need to test disconnecting the muffler and see what happens.
My thought in using the OE muffler connection point is that it keeps some options open for access to main-stream MR2 aftermarket developments.
