I'd like to offer some input to the MK III data.
The woofers are 6-1/2" units, but come with the speaker as an integral part of the baffle plate. So, to replace the speakers you either have to destroy the OEM speaker and reuse the OEM baffle plate, or make a baffle plate yourself. If you make the plate yourself you can use up to the Eupo-size 6.5 (which are really like 6.75"). Most people make these out of MDF, but I'd also like to recommend finding a source of Corian or similar - it's a better product in every way for this function.
The tweeters are 1" as stated; however, many 1" aftermarket tweeters will require a bit of grinding on the plastic door panels to allow them to fit. I think (although have never tried) an aftermarket 3/4 tweeter would fit with no mods to the door panel. FYI, I run a set of 1" Vifa tweeters and had to do the grinding thing.
Next, the Scosche install kit results in a half-DIN pocket (which I find useless). A better solution is to get a fullsized DIN pocket (Corolla, Mustang, whatever), and add these two parts from Mr T: 86221-52060 and 86221-52050. They are snap-on spacers used in the 2000 MY Celica, and nicely fill out the space used by Toyota for later models having the wide dash opening double DIN radio/tape/cd headunit (same model headunit in my '02 MR2 is in my wife's '02 4Runner).
