Side vent duct

i was poking around online cause im at work and have nothing to do. I saw these Side ducts on a google search for mr2 side vents, good idea i think, should be very functional but the price is way to high IMO. i was thinking of fabbing up something similar for cheap, and i was wondering if anyone would be willing to buy them, and also what you guys think about how well they would work. I have a 91T, and a SMIC with 9" puller fan, works great but a small ram air affect would be nice. also, im thinking of the intake side of the engine bay, making a side vent that forces air into the engine bay and makeing a block of plate that would seperate the filter from the rest of the hot engine bay.

Looks good mate! I guess you'll find some buyers.

But I think you don't get a ram air effect with it.
Especially with the speed-limits in the US.

well, at 60-80mph it should make some nice air flow to my intake which will be in a custom made air box to keep the hot air out of the filter. and the other side will flow cool air to my SMIC with 9" puller fan that sucks air pretty good already.

I personally think they look like cheap, stick-on pieces.

I don't like JDM rice, I like JDM OEM

Each to their own, but I think those would look much better if the entire side vent was molded to include the scoop.

yea, but it's around $150 when you order from that site, i kinda wana fab my own vent and sell them for like $40 each, but i dunno if i will have the time just yet. im definatly working on a custom intake box though, something to keep the heat away from the intake filter, and i will put a 10" fan i have on the drivers side engine lid vent to suck hot air out of the engine bay to make up for the restriction of flow the air box i want to make would cause.

HAHA, yea im there right now, but that's why im spending as little as i can to fab something up, that way i can make a little profit if people like what i make and the guys on the forum get a huge discount. i think ultimately fiberglass might be what it's made out of, maybe plastic, CF is nice but is going up in price fast.

if your worried about temps, you should see the custom intake block off plate im going to fab up, keeps hot engine air seperated from the filter, very similar idea that K&N makes, just 1/4 the cost. but since im worried like you that there won't be air flowing into the engine bay on the driver side, im using a 10 inch fan to push hot air out of the engine bay. AND, on the passenger side, the 9" puller fan i have on my IC pulls cold air from outside the side vent very fast so that will be great.

I've got a set of these for mine...

Rogue Systems - Type "B" Side Intake Vents (RMG Developments)

...they look the same as those Border racing ones.

nice, but they are in the UK..., i wonder if i could make some plastics with bullet gold bolts to drill into my side skirt. my passenger side skirt is half missing so i don't care about them for looks currently.

..There is a guy on here who's the US importer for Rogue. I can't remember his name but if you E-Mail Patrick Mortell at Rogue I'm sure he can help identify.

....anyway.....

The subject of this came up on imoc and for the cash of the Rogue ones -we reckoned you can't do much better. HOWEVER, with half a side-skirt missing, I reckon it would be easy to:

Buy a sheet of polystyrene sheet -something like foolscap / A4 size for a buck from a model supplier, Something say 2mm thick (can't remember how many thou that is). And get nifty with a craft knife and heat gun or hair dryer and you could shape the sheet into something fairly similar over your knee or something round. Then then bolt or bond it in place.

...not sure how effective they are as mine are still off the car (problems fitting them nicely to aftermarket skirt / engine pod curves) but from the looks of them -and my boss has a similar one (stock) on his Porche Boxter, they must channel just that bit more air in.

Got my interest on that one mate if it is what I think it is. I'm thinking of doing something similar on mine. If you've a pattern I'd be happy to chuck a few bucks your way for that -or let me know if you'd supply one to the UK.

Cheers,

Richard

well, i'll see what i come up with as far as a template, cause that's always the hard part, i plan on making something with cost in mind, but something that won't just fall apart after install. there are 1-2 places where i see stock places to mount this too so it should be a 1 size fits all MK2's which would be nice.
