the looks are interesting - but what function is it supposed to perform? (and how well does it do it?)

^ It appears to do as most of the roof ducts like that do- disrupting the normal airflow over the vehicle. As the MR2 travels, air is pulled from under the car through the engine bay and out the engine lid, to fill the low pressure zone behind the rear window. These scoops force air to go the opposite direction, creating turbulence and reducing proper airflow over the car. So, in effect, they do nothing worthwhile and simply impede performance.
If anyone has any info contrary to this I'd be most interested in hearing it. |

What if its lowered?
So then what if the MR2 is lowered with a ground effects kit? a good kit will cut off that airflow from under the car and thus impede the airflow into the engine bay. wouldn't having an air intake system like that or the toms intake improve performance by cooling the engine? just curious.

If you really wanted a roof scoop that worked, fab up a solid underbody/diffuser for the engine bay and get a big roof scoop like the NSX race cars with the air venting out up and over the diffuser (between the bottom of the bumper and the top of the diffuser) you also might need to block off or reshape the side ducts to do that efficiently. My idea for a roof scoop is one that would feed a trunk mount intercooler ![]() that way its functional and doesnt mess with the natural airflow (much) |

My friend had the entire Do Luck Aero catalog on his old MR2 (he sold it to another local friend of his earlier this year).
It was the February 2008 showcase of the month here. You can see the front of the ducts in the first picture (the big one). If you click on the 2nd picture from the left in the 2nd row, you can see a rear view of them. February 2008 Showcase |

I'm not sure about the Do-Luck scoops but... On the Toms MR2 they designed the Toms scoop to connect to their induction box for the N/A to act as a ram air effect, but in order for it to work you need the toms air box which is as rare as rocking horse poo and i've only seen a couple of photos of them on a few cars in the UK, they only produced the left hand side (near side, passenger side on a jdm/ RHD mr2) the offside toms scoop is just a replica and they never produced it, they never ment them to aid in any type of cooling except for ram air. I'm not sure about the border or du-luck ones, |

Well I think the whole set up looks awesome!!!! I just wish I could find a US distributor and find out what it would cost! ( you know, with shipping and all that) because I don't speak Japanese that well I don't understand the site and can't figure out what comes in the 3 piece kit either, soooo..... I guess I will keep looking! If anyone knows where I can get this stuff from a US distributor please pm me! The link at the top doesn't work anymore!
Never mind I missed the Madpsi post! Wow, $4000.00!!!!! I didn't see that coming! I can get a widebody kit for that and install it myself and get it painted! $4000.00 what are they making the parts out of??? Carbon fiber coated in gold???? lol Last edited by miracleman89; 09-17-2008 at 01:06 PM. |

madpsi does charge a lot for stuff! But the fitment is second to none, so to some that's more important!

I was originally looking into what it would cost me for do-luck scoops but from the look of things they are out of my price range!!!

I got a kit like that for 750 bucks. Only problem is, is that i had to find someone to actually contact do-luck japan and had them order it for me. And i think it looks great because of the stream lined look.
As for the performance..... and this is just purely theorhetical.... but because the vents are streamlined at the top of the roof and not very big at all. it will help and pull air in. Right behind the vents located on the roof (if you look at the picture) there are other vents. What i think it does is create more of a vaccuum to pull the hot air in faster, and narrows the space devoid of air behind the rear glass, thus making the vaccuum effect a little more efficient. That would be my guess after seeing the product up close and test fitting and taking a really good look at it. |

Sweet!!! I willl have to still think about it! Right now I have more pressing concerns. I have to get it on the road first! Bought mine with a blown motor! Picked up a used engine yesterday in El Paso Texas. Now I have to drop it in and get some driveshafts, then rims and tires and last but not least a front bumper! After I get all that done then I can go for getting "Katsumi" looking pretty! I would have loved to get the full Do-Luck package or a wide body kit but right now those are pretty much pipe dreams. I need to get back on the road first!

I'd try going directly through Do Luck Japan. I've heard of a few cases where people did this, and received faster communication, service and a cheaper price too. If I remember, the 3 piece rear scoops used to cost around $750-800. |
