Weird, I was just wondering about this myself.
What's an ATS upgraded CT20B ? A CT21B ? ![]()

it would be nice, maybe a 350rwhp rebuild on a ct20b, I mean we know what ct20bs are capable of but imagine that much power out of the 20b with not much lag at all.

Unless you're in a country where the turbo cam equipped on a stock car (US/Canada is not one of them, we only received the ct26), you wont find hardly any places that will have the necessary parts to rebuild them. If you do, expect to pay as much for it to be rebuilt as buying a different turbo outright.
The ct20b has a smaller shaft than the ct26, so putting a larger compressor on it will cause it to fail prematurely, which is why you don't see any "upgraded" ct20b's. ATS machines the turbine side of the ct26 to flow better. There is no reason for them to modify a ct20b because the turbine flows better than it needs to really, and as i said above, they have no reason to upgrade the compressor side because of the weaker shaft. |

Sang pretty much covered it. We were rebuilding 20b's a lot, and were having trouble getting parts to do it. That's what led Aaron to seek a better solution, which turned out the be the CT27.

Thanks for the clear up. The reason why i asked is because i may get my hands on a ct20b with around 140k miles on it for real cheap. I'm not sure how much longer i will get out of it so i was thinking rebuild.
Maybe i can trade you this ct20b for a ct27 ![]() |

Part of the rebuild process (at least at OUR rebuilder) involves spin balancing the turbo at high RPM. I don't see how that could be accomplished using a DIY kit, and I definitely don't want something on my car spinning at 70k-100k RPM that is not in perfect balance.
Most new or freshly rebuilt turbos have a splotch of white paint on one of the compressor blades. This is there for the optical pickup on the balancing machine, and thus is a good indicator that the turbo was professionally assembled/reassembled. |

Since the 20b cannot be turned into a CT27, it has no value to us, sorry. |

I had my ct26 rebuilt by megestic turbo, with a stage 2 upgrade. I paid 600, I was told it was a decent deal. It boost strong, Matt at ATS told me he thought it was a CT27, minus the exhaust machining. so far I'm at 205rwhp, at 215 lbs of torque, Matt also told me I would of had higher dyno numbers If I had smaller wheels. I'm currently running 19x9.5 rims and 235/35R19 tires on my rears. |

the ct20 has already been replaced but it leaks oil under high psi... im only intrested in teh rebuild due to the high resale value of the turbo.

Check with Jebsleo on the other board. He apparently has a channel for rebuilding. Although I think rebuilding it will cost most of the resale value.
