Rom Tune Question

Hi,

I am planning to get a Rom Tune from ATS somewhere near december/january and i need to get some additional details.

MY current car Spec

1993 3sgte
ATS CT27 turbo
Tial 38mm External Wastegate
K&N Intake
HKS intercooler with custom piping
Greddy Profec B Spec II
3in dnpipe
Berk full 3in exhaust

Mods For Next month

ATS Bored Fuel Rail
New Fuel Filter
Cleaning Injectors (440cc)
WALBRO 255lph Install
Aeromotive 13109 FPR

QUESTIONS

I would like to get a ROm tune for the mods listed Above.

1. With those mods listed above, does ATS have a similar tune ?

2. I wish to come down to Denton,TX for ATS to tune for my specific engine but, will it be any different if you were to send in a Tuned ECU by mail ?

3. I would like to get a bored fuel rail from ATS, do i have to send in my fuel rail for you to bore them or can ATS send me a bored one and i send my stock fuel rail back ?

Thanks ATS

1. Yes they should have, they USUALLY can work something out with a setup that involves the ct26,20b, gt28, and the tdo6.

2. It is ALWAYS better to have your car custom tuned, 1. so they can physically diagnose and see any problems your car is having,, 2. tune for your specific setup 3.So they can see how your car responds to your mods. Every car is different, no matter what, so it's always best to get a custom tune for your cars specific needs.

3. If ATS has a rail in stock they will send you one of there's and charge you a core price, once they receive your stock one they will refund you. They are good for it.

Yes, it's actually cheaper if you think about it cause you get free dyno runs. BUT if anything is wrong with the car ATS might charge you to diagnose and fix whatever the problem may be. You would have to take that up with them though. I also recomend you doing a compression test before you get the rom tune. Lower compression results in lesser power, it's good to know where your cars numbers are at.

Looks good. I hope you can come for a custom tune. I want to see how the external gate works on the CT27. I think we might could get a little more power out of one if we could install a larger wastegate spring (the stock wastegate spring on all CT turbos is 7 psi, a boost controller can only do so much).

Thanks Aaron ...

I would like to get a bored fuel rail from you next month, should i order them from the website or from you ?

I have made up my mind to come down to ATS in between JAN/FEB for the Custom Rom Tune. When would be the best time for ATS ?

I would want to come down earlier but i want to finish my autox sessions and last track day with the same setup. Where i understand how everything works for the MR2. Then i would like to RENEW my car's fuel system to prepare for the ROM Tune.

One of our used kits? If so then it's a good kit. Always seemed about 10 hp down from the TD06. If it's the old HKS kit I have less experience.

New Tune Question

I would like to purchase either the RMR intake manifold or the Jun Replica Manifold offered by emspowered. I am leaning towards the Jun replica Manifold.

Can a rom tune be done with the above mod specs + Jun replica intake manifold ?

Will this combo ( JUn intake manifold + ct27 ) be a good combination ?

Another Option

I have been reading about GT28rs for Months now. It has always been a mixed feeling between readers. Many have said that the CT27 performs as well as a GT28rs but when i look at the gt28rs rom tune dyno charts, by 2900rpm, it reaches 200 ft.lbs of torque.

ATS, Would you recommend to switch from my CT27 to GT28rs with ROm TUNE ?

If possible i would like to touch the 300whp mark at pump gas. I am leaning towards the GT28rs but i would like to hear ATS's reasoning. Is the CT27 almost the same with GT28RS ?

If i were to go with GT28rs, I would do the complete fuel swap with 550 injectors. Lol, is it possible for me to drive it to texas with the stock ecu with the 550's for ROM tuning ?

My main goal for this car is for autox and mainly track days.

GT28Rs will not make 300whp on pump gas without VE modifications like cams (and even then it might be iffy). The GT28RS does not need 550cc injectors unless you run race gas and over 20 psi. 440's, a Walbro pump, and an ATS FPR are PLENTY of fuel for a pump gassed GT28RS.

The CT27 is 90% the same performance as a GT28RS. If that 10% is worth the extra $1000 them go for it. Personally I think the GT2871 is good option.

Both are horrible ideas for autocrossing or track days. Both are manifolds made for peak power, not smooth midrange like you will want for autocrossing or track days. Stock manifold is best for CT27. The stock intake manifold is not an issue until AFTER the max power of a CT27 or a GT28RS.

Thanks for the input. I shall decide to remain with my CT27 and stock intake manifold.

Here is the deal, i want to max out my performance for my CT27.

The max whp on pump gas i have seen on other forum with ct27 and pump is from your car Aaron - 286 Whp @ 17psi
I want something similar in range. My goal is to take down Evos and Sti on track days.

With my above mods, What else should i add to max out the performance of the turbo for track use? Please advise

I am getting prepared with my shopping list and will begin project in january and send the vehicle down to ats for tuning in feb/march before racing season starts.

Btw - i did a compression test last few weeks
