20g vs. CT27
All:
Later on way down the road, I plan on running one of these turbos with water/meth injection. What I want is a clean stock appearance with great power and excellent spool up characteristics. I really don't want to modify the stock fuel system but I may be forced to seeing as though running meth will be like running race gas. I also want the twin-scroll characteristics of the stock turbo (exhaust housing being divided). Which one of these turbos could get me what I want without much hassle? I'm looking for ~325wrhp on meth. Cheers, -M P.S. Which one of these turbos can take a ball-bearing center cartridge? |

well power may be hard to reach but every other thing you want is the ct27, it looks 100% stock, it's twin scroll, fast spool... has no problem with the stock fuel system... though i would get a rom tune with it.

I like the 20g ok. Its not nearly as heavy as the cast iron ct27/ct20b's, so you might save 20-30lbs in weight reduction by picking that over a ct27. They max out around 400whp or so, correct me if I am wrong, provide decent spool for a daily driver as compared to my lags til 5k rpms 50trim, which is plenty for someone wanting to increase there power and come close to maxxing out there stock block.
They also have external wastegated kits for these to defend against boost creep. To me thats the only way to go. IMO, this is a perfect turbo upgrade choice for someone who wants to remain on a stock block, max out there 440cc injectors and run a high 12, and still have potential to make a lot more power when they upgrade to a standalone and 800cc injectors. The ct27 is not capable of making much more than 300whp, good for someone who wants to remain on a stock 2nd gen fuel system/ecu. Last edited by 3sgtepower; 10-26-2007 at 01:20 PM.. |

Either turbo will require an upgraded fuel system, particularly the TD06. ATS has a ROM tune for the 550CC Supra injectors that will get you to your goal. The CT27 won't quite make your peak power goal, but has the divided housing, unlike the 20G. It also is nearly impossible to tell from stock, once installed. Neither turbo is available with a ball bearing CHRA. Ken |

Get the TD06 if you want that power level. The CT27 barely makes 300whp with race gas and 20+ psi.
Not knocking the CT27, I love mine but its not a powerhouse, spool is pretty good though.Check out the Berk GT3071 kit also, its a pretty nice kit for the price $2200-$2500 cant remember. Last edited by butter nuts; 10-26-2007 at 05:22 PM.. Reason: Plug for competing vendor |

The standing record for the CT27 is 320RWHP@22PSI on race gas. That's through a stock long block and intercooler, with an upgraded fuel pump, ATS Rail and FPR, and stock injectors.

So it's looking like a CT27 max'd out on meth with a ROM tune is the path I'm going to try. I can always trade it in towards the 20g if the power isn't enough for me. -M |

i have a td06-20g on my mr2 right now. i really like it. its a good turbo. if you have done a plotted and compressor map or researched the turbo at all you will see its a pretty good turbo for the mr2. ive seen dyno graphs of guys hitting 200wtq at about 2500 rpms. so thats pretty good for getting around town. you should at least run 550's if you really want to use the turbo though. thats on my list of things to do down the road. and of course a fuel rail, pump, and tune.
when i save up the money to do a tranny swap or get built gears, ill probably end up running a td06 on my suby as well. its good enough for me. |

A turbo is only as good as it's supporting mods. My car can hit 200ft/lb @ 2700 rpm, other MR2 with same turbo hit 200 ft/lb at 4300 or later depending on cams settings and VE mods.
