ok ok since we are talking about rear lights... I was wondering if anyone knew the reason the reverse (white lights) won't go on when obviously reversing???
I know wat u guys are thnking... Switch the bulbs! Right?
well I have done that already! I got some bulbs from autozone the other time ( & I got the specific bulbs for the reverse tail lights too)
if I changed the bulbs and they still don't turn on when I reverse then what could be the problem? Can it be a spark plug that would need to be changed??
if anybody knows it would help
Thanx

Um no, it's not related to spark plugs.

Since we're on the topic of LED's, are you using an LED bulb? if so you just flip it around, it might be in backwards.

Other than that it's probably just that the sensor that senses when it's in reverse is buggered up. Also check to see that there aren't any other blown bulbs somewhere back there.

lmao oh snaps did i say spark plugs??? lmao
i meant to say fuse inside the fuse box...lol idk why i said spark plug haha
but idk man see the thing i dont think the bulb makes contact...i think the socket where the bulb goes in is kinda loose...could that be the problem?

I was wondering wtf you meant by spark plugs

It could be the socket ya, you could go rip a new socket off of a car at the junkyard and put it in (i'm not sure how easy it would be, haven't seen mk2 bulb sockets )

But it could be a fuse... is there anything else not working? Go check each fuse, and use a test meter or whatever it's called and check that each fuse you pull actually lets current through, because sometimes they don't look blown but they are, also use a test light to see if the socket actually is getting power, (when it's in reverse of course) and if you can check somewhere along those wires.

I had an OLD merc where the wires and sockets and stuff for the turn signals were all loose and i kinda went in and re-soldered some stuff and it was all good.

I personally didn't think the led light bulbs looked great, but I 100% agree with your post. Thanks for the sensible comment.

Here's the website. Ive been looking into buying these for many many years now.
SUPER BRIGHT LEDS home

For the most part the bulbs you show are about the same as the ones used by the OP. I personally would suggest NOBODY buys from superbrightled's, their quality sucks (I had 4 3157's with "wide angle" leds and with in 2 months half or more of the leds per bulb had failed). I'd say Ebay or Autolumination (higher prices but they have some custom bulbs not found on ebay) and I'd say go with Tower bulbs:

As for the reverse light issue, I'd check the reverse switch on the transmission to make sure it's plugged in as well as functioning properly, this is most likely where the issue lies if it's not the fuse and bulb holder...

I saw a couple of cool pics of LED lights in an other post in here.

I'm wondering if any of you guys might know how they managed to obtain the look in the pictures? Did they use some sort of special LED bulbs? Or did they maybe throw in some sort of "angel eyes" in the tail lights?

I've thought about converting to LED's, but I doubt I'll ever get around to it.

These are kind of neat:

Its on a motorcycle but the writeup and pictures are pretty good.

Those look sweet. If i could do a similar idea on my mk1, but with straight strips instead of circles that would be cool.

Don't think those are the LED tail lights you can buy (for a hell lot of money) (see the LED lights on previous page in this post)

The pictures I have seen of those didn't have a LED circle in the middle. I believe the lights in the picture have been modified by someone who has put some sort of LED circle bulb in the lights.

Don't know if it some homemade solution or if it's some ready to buy LED sulution though...

Found some more pics of these tail lights.

Apears to be a homemade solution. I think it looks kind of sweet, but I imagine that not everyone will agree with me on that...

I like the look on the LED tales more then the neon. I have taken off my tales, but I did not know you could split the lens from the body of the lens without killing the whole thing. I will try this myself, if there is a how to on getting the lens apart.

This thread shows pictures of the parts that have to be removed before taking out the glass.
Tail lights for the mk2

Not a complete guide though. And it looks like the glass is glued to the reflector if you loook at the pictures of how to bild the led version.
