good action shot or yours truely

i just thought that i'd throw up a pic of me racing at the canadian nats in red deer. Seems this forum is a tad slow.

How can you tell that i destroyed my rear drivers side wheel bearing on that run? The car has -2.5 degrees static camber in the rear, but its very positive in that pic. The 8 hour drive home pulling a trailer with 12 tires/wheels on it was pretty nuts with that blown wheel bearing.

Unfortunately, it happens to me more often than most, it seems. I've never heard of other people going through wheels bearings as often as me. I race on a lot that has some pretty decent sized bumps/dips in it, and if i happen to hit one of those dips/bumps while sliding, it reall;y puts alot of stress on the rear bearings. The newest generation of R tires really stick too.

Yeah, i was surprised considering that I'm running stock sway bars and stiffer springs (350ppi rear, 260ppi front). Its common for E/stock MR2's to lift a front wheel since they run stock soft springs and large front sway bars. I think that I was lifting that inside wheel quite a bit more than what is seen in that pic. The photographer just didnt capture the image when it was at its peak hight off of the ground.

If you're blowing through rear wheel bearings often, you may have a shot hub. Have you replaced the hub with a new one yet?

I replaced a shot WB and it went out again within 100 miles....replaced the hub and put another new WB in, and it has been great.

2's with sticky tires pick up a wheel on tight autox turns quite often especially with stiffer sways.
cars with short wheelbases seem to do it more often, but even my truck does it occasionally.

hehe thats nothing, should see the modded vw gti's and a corrado we have at autox here, they lift the back inside wheel though, sometimes 4 or 5 inches off the ground. Stick tires + stiff anti-roll bars...

I have an 80 corolla that meets that desription.

It runs, but has no oil pressure. Built engine w/ sidedraughts. Luckilly 3TC engines are a dime a dozen.

the 80 corolla isn't moving this winter. no ice racing for me.
ACtually, the corolla doesnt have a heater, so it wouldnt work for ice racing anyways. I built it for rallyX/autoX use. I'm not sure if you guys know about what goes on at the QCMA sports car olympics, but it is an event that has three different types of racing involved. Day one is rallyX followed by a navx rally. Day two is autoX. I wanted a car that could do all three events, which is what the corolla was supposed to do. Unfortunately the engine took a dump. It still runs, but with no oil pressure. Lots of nice metal shavings in the oil too. I hope the high comp pistons are not damaged. I just bought a 292 degree cam for it, so i dont care if the old performance cam is damaged. The car has a header and sidedraughts too. Luckilly the engine bay has next to nothing in it so an engine swap should be VERY easy. It needs a new clutch anyways.
