205 fronts, 225 rears is what everyone is running... brands depend on driver preference between higher ultimate grip but edgier & less forgiving (Hoosier) or just a tiny bit less ultimate grip but alot easier to use and more forgiving (V710)
if you're making the step up from street tires I'd go with a more intermediate tire like the Nitto NT01 or Toyo R888. They'll be more consistent over their life, last longer, plus they bridge the gap between good streets and good race. All those factors will make it so you won't face nearly as much learning curve ![]() |

Alright I wasnt sure because I know you can go wider tire than stock but you have to keep the stock rim. I wasn't sure how wide i could go on the front because I have 195's on the front and 225's on the rear

I needed a tiny bit of spacer (stock is allowed a little bit, look up the exact amount in the rulebook) with my 205 Hoosiers at -3.1* camber fwiw. The rest are sized alot more "normally" for what its worth

Yep, 205f 225r is the way to go. I run v710s, and love them. DO NOT GET AN INTERMEDIATE TIRE. In stock, it's r-comps or nothing. Anything else is a waste of money, because you WILL get destroyed by the r-comp guys. FWIW, you are allowed a 1/4 inch spacer in addition to stock wheels, or you can get wheels of stock size with an extra 1/4 in offset.

If you are running SCCA rules (stock) you are required to run the same diameter as on the OEM rim.
Your Technical Inspector generally will let you "go up" to the next size width only.(there is a graph of tire ratios he looks at) You are not permitted to go to 5-lugs if your car was not such OEM equipped. If you are a serious racer, the Chief Technical Inspector is a person you should talk to now on any questions/issues. This man does not want to deal with your problems on "Race Morning" and will advise you by phone all you have to do is ask. Our Racing Club/Region went so far as to let racers "pre" inspect their cars during the week at a pre-designated club social events. Our technical inspectors visited builders cars upon request too. If this is perhaps a "first race" get back with me, I have some basic outlines on what to expect and what happens at AutoX, Hillclimbs etc... Happy Motoring |

i have 2 different sets of autoX tires, one for the wet and one for the dry.
the wets are BFgodrich Traction T/A's 205-55-15 all the way around the drys are Kumho V710's 225-50-15 all the way around, and i use 8mm spacers on the fronts to keep the tires from rubbing the shocks. the 225's are very nice all the way around, i think some people are just afraid that theyre gonna peel off the fronts or something, but they wont. the only problem i have had is that with the spacers the front lugs cannot be tightened in that far, and go on maybe 3 threads and a lot of people(myself included) have stripped lugs and studs trying to crank the lugs down |

Treadware Rating?
My Goodyear Racing Slicks have a -0-treadware rating.
The old Hoosiers were a #50 treadware rating. My first racing Yoko's had a #80 treadware rating. My Dad's Buick has #540 treadware rating? Are the newer "R" tires all coming with the same treadware rating? (can you still order treadware as well?) Any drifters out there with treadware ratings preference in the rear? |
